6 Things All Winners Do
Ever had a dream so big it consumes you, but keep having your hopes dashed to pieces every time you try to achieve it? We all have, and there’s nothing more soul-destroying. However, as clichéd as it sounds, if you keep on keeping, and don’t give up for a second, you’ll get there eventually. After all, you miss out on 100% of the things you don’t go for, right? So to motivate and inspire you to go for that goal, here are six things all winners do when chasing a dream.
1. Don’t let failure stop you from trying again
As hard as failure is to take, you’ll always have another chance if you let yourself have one. It doesn’t matter how many doors close, there’s always a window open somewhere. Think of J.K Rowling and her hugely successful Harry Potter franchise. She was rejected 11 times before someone believed her, and is now the author of one of the most beloved series of all time. Not to mention she’s one of the richest women in the world!
2. Ignore the haters
In the words of Taylor Swift, “Haters gonna hate”. There will always be someone trying to bring you down, either out of jealous, spite, or a combination. However, it’s up to you whether you listen to them or not. If you let yourself get overwhelmed by negativity, you’re defeated before you’ve even begun. Look at Fred Astair. Early in his career, a studio executive wrote of him, “Can’t sing, can’t act…can dance a little.” If he’d let this get him down, there’s no way he’d have become the singing, acting dancing sensation he was.
3. Get your head in the game
You know the old saying; you’ve got to be in it to win it. To achieve that goal, you’ve got to be brave enough to put yourself out there. Tell people what you’re doing. Ask for help when you need it. Say yes to everything. And above all, have fun! If it’s something you’re passionate about, it won’t feel like work. You’ll reap the rewards eventually!
4. Keep on self-promoting
Don’t be shy about putting yourself out there. If you believe you’ve got the goods to get ahead, so will everyone else. It just takes a bit of self-promotion and a lot of confidence. If you’re sure of what you’re doing, confidence is a byproduct. So get out there and make some noise! Nobody is going to promote you but you.
5. Ask for what you want
If you need help or support, just go right ahead and ask for it. If you need someone to back you financially or emotionally, don’t be shy about asking for that too. You’ll be surprised at how many people are willing to help you out. Remember, you’ve got friends in all sorts of unexpected places, and if you find someone with the same passion as you, it will make it half as difficult and twice as fun!
6. Don’t try to control everything
Sadly, not everything is under our control. There are some things you have to leave to fate, and hope for the very best. If your path takes an unexpected twist, just roll with it. Everything happens for a reason, and if you’re flexible and have faith, you’ll find the reason sooner rather than later. Spontaneity and instinct are the best ways to plan!
