Things You Can Really Get For Free

Posted on: 16th January 2013

get-free-stuff-onlineWe know the saying 'There's no such thing as a free lunch'. We think it’s wrong and we’re gonna prove it here.

You’d say, hugs and kisses may be free as well as beautiful sunsets and the lovely chirping of birds but what about groceries, movies, and a college education? Probably not.

But in this fast-paced world, everyone seems to always be in a hurry to update and upgrade their home appliances, work machines, gadgets and everything else they own. That’s why Freestyle and Craigslist has an abundance of free stuff meant for donations and swapping; otherwise, they’ll just go straight to the landfill.

So here are some things you can actually get for free – which could also make a huge impact in your life, or maybe just bring simple pleasures.

  1. Free cash

No, we’re not talking about winning game shows or rigging the latest lotto draw results. Get free cash when you withdraw your money from your bank’s ATM machine, rather than a different one. How ironic that even our own money costs us money and if you add up all the service charges in a year, that’s a lot of cash you’re giving away to the bank instead of just saving it up.

  1. Garden seeds

That’s weird. Who wants garden seeds anyway? But if you use it to start your own garden, imagine all the free produce you can use to enliven your cooking options and keep your body strong and healthy. You don’t have to be a slave to those outrageously priced organic fruits and vegetables in the farmer’s market because you have it right in your backyard or your window sill if you don’t have extra space. The point is, you can just ask from your friends who are already growing their own gardens. Or, you can also visit sites that give away free packets of seeds after you answer a simple question. Sign up for a gardening catalogue so you can get seeds without paying a dime. And then, when you have started your own small garden, you can swap seeds online or trade it at a local garden club near you.

  1. Soup stock

It only costs cheap at the supermarket but why pay for it when you can get it for free? Every time you peel off vegetables, instead of throwing it away in the bin put it in a container inside the fridge. When you have enough, put it in a deep pot and sauté in olive oil for a few minutes. Add water, season with salt and pepper and then simmer for about an hour. That is enough to season your dishes and it’s not laden with excessive amount of sodium and artificial additives.

  1. Movies

Though this might not include the films currently showing in theatres, you can still enjoy a great deal of movies found in public domains. You can download it, free of charge, and without fear of breaking the anti-piracy rules and regulations. You can also visit video streaming sites like Hulu and YouTube and get an overdose of classic and well-loved movies throughout the century.

  1. Education

The price of a college degree just continues to skyrocket each academic year, so who would actually give you one without doling a hole in your pocket? Actually, you can find many free online courses offered by honourable institutions such as Harvard and Yale but you can also try open2study.com for starters.

  1. eBooks

If you’re an avid book lover or collector, you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to buy the hardbound or limited edition version of your favourite thriller or novel. Just visit public domain book sites where you can enjoy a plethora of books from the classic Les Miserables to teenage fan fiction Percy Jackson series. You can read directly online or download as ePub or Kindle.

  1. Household formulas, remedies for common illnesses and beauty fixes

This should come as no surprise with the proliferation of blogs and self-help sites dedicated to helping the ordinary people beat consumerism right at home. You can look it up on the internet for recipes that will help you whiten your whites or get that stubborn stain out of your carpet. From DIY lip balm and chemical-free deodorant to heartburn remedy, insect repellent and instant air cooler – you’ll be amazed by the creativity of these bloggers to reducing your dependence on technology and branded products – at no extra cost!

  1. New language

Now, where would you use one? Well, you’ll never know when you have to pack your bags off to an exotic place like Czech Republic or Iceland. Or maybe realize your dream of visiting the Eiffel Tower or hop on to different tapas bar in Spain. Now is the time to hit free online language sites so you can gain free access to complete courses of the language you want to learn.

And of course, you have free access to things like walking tours, garden visits, museum hopping, picnics at parks, and even 4WD adventures right at the heart of the land down under. When you have to tighten your purse strings, it doesn’t mean you have to kill the fun and excitement in your life. If you know where to look, you can indulge in free things that would bring your great satisfaction and fulfilment.
