The Great Wall of China

The Easter Island

The Easter Island is one of the most intriguing places to visit on earth with its sea-facing silent stone figures that are indicative of the unique culture and skills of the Polynesian peoples. These moai (monolithic) statues speak volumes of the creator’s achievements but it is still unknown as to why the people of Rapa Nui had painstakingly built these huge structures. The statues which are carved out of stone blocks have a head and torsos that are up to 13 feet tall and weigh 14 tons. The Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal has been named as one of the eight wonders of the world with an architectural beauty that has not been matched. Built entirely from white marbles, the Taj Mahal is called the “elegy in marble” built by the Muslim emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal in Agra, India, is breathtakingly beautiful especially during dawn and dusk – making you really smile about the length and breadth of one’s love for another person. It took twenty-two years for this marvel to be ready with twenty thousand workers carving out this stunning structure day and night. Designed by the famous Mughal architect Ustad Isa, it had cost the emperor 32 million rupees. Visit this man made marvel and hold on to your breath!

The Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is a rich, diverse setting for some of the most amazing and strangest sea creatures. It is also one of the largest coral reef ecosystems in the world. As the largest living structure that stretches up to 2300 kilometres, it is popular with the tourists for its complex structure and colourful maze of reefs. It is also home to a wide-ranging variety of flora and fauna like crocodiles and turtles, some of which have hardly changed since the last millennia. It has been dubbed as one of the seven natural wonders of the world and the only from the list that can be seen from outer space.

The Great Pyramid of Giza

The Great Pyramid of Giza has been included in the list of seven wonders of this world. It is not only the oldest man-made structure but also the only one that is still standing. For 3800 years, it remained as the tallest structure ever built by man. This pyramid signifies the advanced stage of Egyptian architecture leaving the Egyptologists even today guessing how the structure was actually made.

 

Petra, Jordan

Petra in Jordan is undoubtedly the most precious treasure of this country. It attracts the highest number of tourists to the country and is an example of the best wonders ever created by man. Almost 2000 years ago, it was carved from rocks by the Nabataeans of Arabia. The vast mausoleums and the giant red mountains are really mind-blowing in structure. It was turned into an important trade centre of spices, silk and other products from India, China, Rome, Greece, Syria, Egypt and other Arab countries.

Stonehenge

Symbol of endurance, power and mystery, Stonehenge is one of the greatest treasures of Britain, making it a national icon. It has still not been understood how it was created but it is believed that it was made to worship the ancient deities of earth. It is also believed that it was the burial site for elite citizens while some believe it to be a gigantic calendar. It was built around 5000 years ago, an example of a great engineering feat of the past.

Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat in Cambodia was first built as a Hindu temple and gradually was made into a Buddhist shrine. It is the largest religious shrine in the world.
