How To Succeed in Online Competitions

Online CompetitionsThe first  tip for succeeding in online competitions is to enter as many as possible. It may sound simple, but it's one of the surest ways to master competitions. Writing the best entry takes a certain amount of skill. By doing it a lot, you will eventually get better at it; the best outcome is that you could win a prize.

Skill based competitions obviously require a fair amount of attention. One of the first things that you need to do is read and understand the questions carefully. Always make sure that you adhere to the rules and guidelines, e.g. the word limit. Entries that exceed the word limit are often overlooked by the judges, even if they're totally awesome.

No matter how good you think your entry is, your piece will be judged against all the other awesome entries: of which there could be hundreds. You need to give yourself the best chance by making sure your entry meets the judge's requirements. So if they want poetry, give them your best poem.

Take a few extra minutes to proof read your piece, picking up on  grammatical errors and basically ensuring that the work you are presenting is your best.

Many people feel completely daunted when it comes to writing competitions, and they don't enter. As a writer this presents a stronger opportunity for you to win, as fewer people do.
