How To Spend 24Hrs In New York City
New York City is as mythical as it is magical. Although it's packed full of things to see and do, just how do you work your day around everything you want to accomplish? Here are 12 steps to construct the perfect 24 hours in NYC!
1. Don’t get up early
Yep; nothing in New York opens before nine or ten, because everyone stays up late! Feel free to luxuriate between the sheets until at least mid morning.
2. Go to brunch
New York boasts some of the best brunch places in the world. Because the market is so competitive, every restaurant is constantly coming up with new, innovative meals guaranteed to tickle the taste buds. Fancy peanut butter French toast? You’ll find it in NYC!
3. Head to Macy’s
You haven’t been shopping until you’ve been to Macy’s department store on 34th Street. You’ll find everything from big brand clothing to children’s toys, plus some really great bargains. Go at Christmas time to see the infamous Christmas window displays!
4. Walk to Times Square
Times Square is just a 10-15 minute walk up Broadway, so why wouldn’t you foot it to see the sights? If it’s freezing cold, it’s just a couple of stops on the subway. Soak up the city however you get there!
5. Queue at TKTS
Nobody should go to New York without seeing a Broadway show, and the best way to get discount tickets is by lining up at the TKTS box office in Times Square. Don’t worry if you have to queue for two hours (which it’s likely you might!); queuing is half the fun! You’ll meet people from all walks of life, and who knows? You might even make some show buddies!
6. Scoff some Schmackary’s cookies
After you’ve nabbed some fabulous tickets to your fave play or musical, head to Schmackary’s cookies on 46th Street for the taste experience of a lifetime. Try their famous red velvet cookies with cream cheese frosting. You will not be disappointed!
7. Go to Central Park
After indulging, take a walk or get the subway up town to Central Park. Winter or summer, the park is infallibly beautiful. Experience the abundant greenery of the warmer months, or the golden leaves and soft snow of the colder seasons. Beautiful either way!
8. Pre-show dinner
After a relaxing afternoon at the park, go to a fabulous restaurant for pre-show dinner. Many places around Times Square do fantastic dinner-and-a-show deals, so take advantage of it!
9. Enjoy a Broadway show
Finally, you’re sitting in a theatre, taking in the sights and sounds of Broadway. Enjoy!
10. Post-show drinks
After leaving the show, exhilarated, the night doesn’t have to end. Sneak into Don’t Tell Mama piano bar for some late night tunes, or head to Birdland for the smooth sounds of jazz, washed down with a cocktail or five.
11. Post-drinks Ben & Jerry’s
When you’ve have your fill of music and drinks, wander into any 24 hour store and pick up some Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. The perfect indulgent treat to finish your night!
12. Home time
All good things must come to an end. Haul yourself back to your hotel, fall into bed, and rest up for another epic day in the Big Apple!
